Pauline Armstrong

My name is Pauline Armstrong and I am an affiliate teacher for the National Childbirth Trust (NCT).

I have been working with groups for more than 25 years now as well as having two other jobs: I am a Practice Manager for a small, special Midwifery Practice in Peckham, SE London and I’m involved in a research project at Kings to help to keep birth normal.

I am one of the initiators of the Birth Options evenings as I’m keen that couples get the opportunity to look early at their choices around birth and how significant these choices can be for birth outcomes.

For the NCT I offer three different types of courses.  The courses for first time parents are each 14 hours, either evening based for couples with one daytime women only session or a two day intensive with one evening. Both of these courses have a postnatal class.   I also run ‘Refresher’ courses on demand.

I live with my husband in Tunbridge Wells, have three children and two step-children.

Anja K-Metzner

I am an Independent midwife and Homebirth educator for Sussex & Kent.
I went into Independent practice to support women’s choice, give continuity of care and meet individualized needs. I specialize in natural birth, homebirth, waterbirth and Vaginal Birth after Caesarean.
It is my pleasure to work with women and their partners to offer holistic care and information enabling informed decision-making and a positive birth and postnatal transition experience.

Birth Choices TW was born out of my feeling that women are often experiencing a vaccuum after the excitement of finding out about their pregnancy and before being able to attend classes. I am very excited and happy to be working with this group of fellow birth practitioners to create a space for women and couples to explore their choices and questions.

I offer regular Homebirth & Waterbirth evenings around Sussex & Kent.

I am a mother of two teenage sons and live just south of Crowborough.

Maya Morgan

All my life I have worked with children and families; as a nursery-school teacher, taking care of children with special needs and in the last 15 year teaching Yoga for Pregnancy and running Active Birth classes in the Tunbridge Wells area.
I originally began the Birthwise Yoga classes, because I found that women greatly benefited from learning how to use their bodies and breathing better, leading to a much more satisfactory labour and birth experience. The yoga practised is gentle and accommodates individual needs, laying a good foundation for a healthy pregnancy. After the birth yoga is good for providing moments of peace and quiet and babies like it too !
Women from all sorts of background come to the Birthwise classes or have private sessions with me and often combine them with other local childbirth and parenting classes .
I believe that an active and explorative approach to preparing for labour and birth leads to a healthy, flexible and very nurturing  parenting.

Yoan Tranholm Reed

My name is Yoan Tranholm Reed.  I came to the UK in 1989 from Denmark.

In 1997 I qualified as a midwife. Before, during and after my training I had three children.  It was while living in London during my first pregnancy, that I discovered Active Birth and Yoga. This wonderful approach had a profound influence on how I perceived pregnancy and birth.

I feel passionate about supporting women in their transition from woman to mother. Women need only to be reminded that their bodies and minds work together; that the breath and the movement are joined; that the baby and the mother are partners in birth.
Women already possess the genetic blueprint for birth; The key to access is through information, education, practice and support. Combining Active Birth and Yoga creates a safe and educational preparation for birth. It enables a women to get in touch with her inner strength, and builds trust and confidence towards her own body, as well as exploring birth positions and awareness of the baby.

Sara Lane

I spent 10 years working as a personal manager for a London photographer. A husband and three children later, I decided to study midwifery and indulge a growing passion for the natural process of birth, and women's amazing ability to make it happen.
After two years working in Pembury hospital I am now a community midwife for Hawkhurst, Kent.
My belief in women's ability to give birth without intervention following normal pregnancy, coupled with my belief in the necessity for women to take the reins in their own births whether pregnancy has been complicated or not, drives my passion for midwifery. I remain in the NHS because I believe that good birth experiences, and/or control over those experiences, should be available to all women and their families. Almost a quarter of my caseload choose to birth at home.

Pippa Berger

I have always loved children and babies and trained as a Nursery Nurse before having my own family.

I have four children of my own, three sons and a daughter. All my births have been very different but positive, including having a premature baby. I've experienced both hospital and home births.

My interest in birth led me to train as an NCT Teacher over 9 years ago and I have worked with hundreds of parents, preparing for the arrival of their babies. I have also been an active member of my local NCT branch for many years.

I am registered with DoulaUK and offer relaxation classes in Tonbridge.
